Sony tries to overcome Apple TV of the future

Sony is planning to create an Internet TV in the U.S. to offer the traditional broadcast channels via satellite and cable. According to The Wall Street Journal, the Japanese giant has already had talks with NBC. Sony could break into the pay TV sector with an offer with less channels, cheaper available on PS3, BD players, connected TVs.

Apple wants to make the TV of the future but Sony wants try to beat it or at least to be the first company in the world to have invented the television of the new millennium. This what can think reading an article in The Wall Street Journal that Japanese company is trying to bring an alternative TV in the market via the Internet for transmission of channels and content up to date disseminated by pay TV via cable and satellite.

Apple TV

For this purpose the Japanese giant has already sparked some discussions with some of the most important producers of films, TV series and editorial content in the U.S This is this what we learn from while the companies surveyed by Sony are NBC Univiersal, Discover Communications and News Corp, the latter is the multinational owner of The Wall Street Journal.

There is no one yet present in the market for pay TV market insiders expect an input from Sony can break the current balance of the sector. Rather than offer packets containing dozens or even hundreds of channels at high prices, Sony may attempt to enter the sector by offering packages with fewer channels and a much more affordable price.

Of course the pay TV transmissions via the Internet could be played on all major devices like the Sony Playstation 3, Blu-ray and other Sony devices for the living room, as well as on TV with Internet access.

The success of the operation however is anything but obvious, Although Sony has its own production company but the Japanese company does not have a major TV channel in the U.S. and its interests are diametrically opposed to those of television producers and distributors.

The new Sony strategy closely resembles Apple's attempt to create a package of TV content to enrich its offer and make it more palatable to the Apple TV. But the genius of Steve Jobs business was forced to surrender to the breakfast area at all willing to sell off the best of U.S. TV channels and programming packages to create economic and subscriptions can cannibalize overcrowded and expensive packages of pay TV cable and satellite.
