After considering MobileMe as a mistake, Apple wants iCloud is the ultimate commitment to manage our data in the cloud. And for the time being, leaving aside the General problems that occurred in the network the day of its release, does not seem that they are failing.

But as you might expect, competition has reacted to this release. From last few days it didn't stop me to see how many services have begun to promote more benefits to attract users and get them away from the new Apple cloud. Much of the competition (if not all), offers much more space on the web as the main attraction. But is it enough?
A simple look at Twitter already give us a handful information. Many users are spreading the word of a promotion to get 50 GB of Dropbox for life (which is not too bad considering the quality of Dropbox). Box.net offers 50 GB free if we register through iOS device.

If we look to what iCloud give with a basic fee of 5 GB, the comparison is inevitable. But be careful because Apple trying to provide quality instead of quantity.
First of all I must say that the 5 GB offered by Apple is relative, in this space must not count our pictures, our songs purchased from iTunes or other applications. Considering that some games like Asphalt VI iOS occupy hundreds of MB, is something to keep in mind. Another thing to consider is also the small print of the license agreements at what price going to pay all these GB that offer us so easily.
Of course that we cannot say that Apple have not broken any dish, but DropBox had some other mishap with the privacy of the files that are stored on their servers. Not to mention the quality of service. What if millions of people pass Backupify? really can endure that company so much space for free users?
Apple is a specialist in taking that to the letter: two days ago I took some pictures at a demonstration with the iPhone and when I got home, the pictures were magically saved in the library of all my macs. Yes, DropBox can do this, but I have to configure the application and give permission to the service so that you can read the location of my pictures.
If Apple has taken so long to get to the cloud, it is because the Apple has done a lot of research work on iCloud to make it more comfortable. The positive thing is that we have just begun and over time by time developers will generate the API to improve this cloud. And that's where the competition should focus on improving its own ecosystem. Google, for example, has learned approaching it very differently and focusing all their services in web applications.
